Delaware's students still performing below national math, reading proficiency levels

The 2024 Nation's Report Card was released, taking in data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. 35% of Delaware's 4th graders were assessed to be "at or above Proficient" for 4th grade mathematics, up from 26% in 2022, but still 4% below the pre-pandemic-level, and the state's second-lowest score since 2005. Going back to 1992, Delaware has generally been within a percentage or two of the national average most years, but found itself 9 points behind in 2022, when Delaware's 26% was compared to the nation's 35%. Fire crews from Wilmington Manor and the Delaware Air National Guard arriving around 12:30 p.m. encountered flames from the roof of Atlantic Aviation. Wilmington Manor fire officials said due to the amount of roof work and overhaul, a second alarm was called. Crews were on scene for about two and a half hours.
